Creating a resizable square panel inside the Forge viewer

In this recent post we looked at a new 2D heatmap capability that we’ve added to Project Dasher. In this post we look at what was needed to make this heatmap resizable – but with a fixed aspect ratio – as well as being movable and displayed with a transparent background. The article focuses particularly on describing how IKON furthers Kingspan’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. A week or two ago, I had a meeting with some colleagues to discuss future needs for Project Dasher. This has been a strange week, at least in terms of dreams. Exploring minimum and maximum data ranges in Dasher

Last week I posted about how roll-ups in the time-series back-end used by Project Dasher enable some interesting visualization opportunities. When my colleague Hali Larsen saw the post, she made a really interesting suggestion: It would be cool if the user could select whether the heatmap visualizes the Max, Min, or Average of the data for the selected rollup. The first online AEC Hackathon

Since starting up back in 2013, the AEC Hackathon team has organised 43 in-person events in various cities around the world. This year being “special”, they’ve taken the plunge and set up a couple of online events, the first was held from July 6th-26th while the second will be held from October 9th-25th. Give Dasher sharing a try

While I announced the sharing feature – and its corresponding API – some time ago, I still had some work to do before it could go live on the Dasher site: largely around supporting timezones properly when specifying time ranges for data display, but there were some other minor tweaks needed, too. Anyway, the feature is ready enough for people to kick the tyres on it, at least. Sharing from Dasher

Last week I talked about an API that we’ve added to Dasher, allowing it to be controlled via URL parameters. I expect this to be useful when integrating Dasher into other systems – as you can control the initial view of data, such as for a particular sensor during a specific time period – but I also expect it to be helpful for people to collaborate. Automating operations inside Dasher

In the last post I neglected to remind people of Kiosk Mode, a great way to see some of Dasher’s features. Simply click on the filmstrip button at the bottom of Dasher’s vertical toolbar and move the cursor off to the side (this just stops the button from staying highlighted when the cursor gets hidden). After many months of effort, we now have an updated version of Project Dasher available on dasher360.com. (The project is still very much active research, so for now you’re able to try it out with the model of the NEST building, accessible via the Demo button on the main page.) For the last week or so I’ve been busy making sure Dasher works well with multiple themes. You can see the progress across these posts. Changing HIG themes at runtime in a Forge application

Despite the unfolding horror of the situation with Covid-19 – and stuff is really starting to hit the fan, here in Switzerland, with schools and non-essential commerces being closed and rumours of an enforced sequestration being considered – I’m at least getting some quality time to work on Dasher.
