Our eldest son has caught the scuba diving bug, big-time. He’s a fourth generation scuba diver on my wife’s side – my side’s full of landlubbers – and as he’s just completed his PADI Junior Open Water it was important for us to find a good diving location for this October’s break. We chose a small town just south-west of Cannes, as the local diving centre – le Centre de Plongée de la Rague – is run by friends of friends originating from the Neuchâtel area.
We’ve been here since Sunday and will leave on Friday – a short trip, but very welcome.
On the way down we stopped for lunch in Avignon – somewhere it’s probably been 20 years since I visited. Luckily medieval towns don’t change very quickly, so I still knew my way around, to some degree.
When we arrived at our Airbnb in Mandelieu-La-Napoule, we found it to be a very nice place. Here’s our appartment building, which doesn’t look like much from the outside, but we do have a sea view from the 6th floor:
And the views from up at San Peyre – a 10-minute walk up from La Napoule – are simply stunning.
The Château de La Napoule is also very picturesque.
The diving has been very nice, too. I’m not much of a diver – my 12 year-old and I both did our 19th dives together on Monday (he has since surpassed me) – but it’s good for me to get back out there. We’ll be doing one last dive all together – including an open sea “baptism” for our 10 year-old – tomorrow, before we head back home.
